Did You Know…? – Top-up of print budget

When you run out of credit, MFDs will display a “credit too low” message and your documents will not print.

To top-up your balance online, visit: https://printmanage.abdn.ac.uk/

  • On classroom PCs, access the PrintManage system by using the Desktop shortcut
  • On personal laptops/PCs, go to https://printmanage.abdn.ac.uk/ and switch user to Use another account

You will need to log in to the system using your username (e.g. u01abc01) and password. All payments are made in exact multiples of £1 and minimum payment is £5 with maximum payment being £20.

Cash payments can be made in person in the following locations:

  • Medical Library (Foresterhill): Issue Desk
  • The Sir Duncan Rice Library: Hardback Café
  • Students’ Union Building (formerly known as “The Hub”): The Bear Essentials shop

To check your balance:

Swipe your card on the MFD and tap the Pull Print icon. At the top left of the window you will see your name, the number of documents in your printing queue and the amount of credit remaining in your account.

Printing single-sided

Did you know that you can determine whether your document will be printed double or single-sided? Printers are set to print double-sided but this can be changed before you send your document to print. No changes can be made once it has been sent to the printer. Read our post and find out how!

Word documents

When you are ready to print:

  1. Open your document and click on the FILE tab at the top left hand side of the screen
  2. Choose Print. This will bring up the printing menu
  3. Make sure to choose  BW-pull-pcl on class–print.uoa.abdn.ac.uk, or COLOUR-pull-pcl on class -print.uoa.abdn.ac.uk
  4. In Settings, click the drop down arrow in Print on Both Sides to get the option: Print One Sided. Choose the desired option and then send off your work to print by clicking on the large ‘Print’ icon

You also have options for defining the size, orientation and margins of your document, as well as the number of pages per sheet.

PDF documents

If you are working on a network computer, BW or COLOUR-pull will be the default printer destination.

If you are viewing a book in an e-book collection and wish to print a chapter from it, click on View PDF to open the file and once the document has downloaded, click on the printer icon at the top right of the screen. Depending on the browser, you will see an options window like the one below:

Set your printing preferences by clicking the down arrow in the More settings menu.

  • Please note that we have different copyright permissions with different publishers regarding printing and downloading

Sending documents to MFDs

All printing on campus is via networked multi function devices (MFDs).

You can send items from any classroom PC, your personal laptop, tablet or mobile phone over the wireless network and collect your documents from any networked MFD on campus.

Your items are sent to a holding queue until you are ready to print them.

You can see what is in your print queue or delete items that you no longer want to print using the PrintManage system.

To send a job to the printer (MFD):

  1. open the document you wish to print and click on the FILE tab on the far left of the ribbon (at the top of your screen)
  2. choose Print to bring up the print menu.

From the drop-down arrow, make sure to choose MFD-PULL-BW if you are printing in black and white, and MFD-PULL-COLOUR if you are printing in colour.

At this stage, you also need to select the right SETTINGS – the paper size & orientation, whether your document is single-sided or double-sided (all MFDs default to print on both sides of the paper to save costs!)

When you are ready – simply click on PRINT.

There are printers/MFDs in or near to all PC classrooms, public areas as well as on each floor of the Sir Duncan Rice Library.  To retrieve your documents simply hold your student ID card against the front of the MFD/printer or use the screen to login.  This short video will show you how easy it is to do!

Find quick answers to your printing questions here.

Sending print jobs from your laptop and mobile device:

  • Find information on how to configure your personal device to the printing network here. This is a one-time set up and you won’t have to repeat it every time you send jobs from your laptop!
  • Also see the guide about printing from a mobile device when working on the move. WebPrint allows you to send jobs from your phone or tablet and collect from a networked MFD/printer.
