UK Data Service will be undergoing an overhaul from Thursday 23 August until Wednesday 29 August. Some parts of the current website, account area and data catalogue will be unavailable during this period. Secure Lab users will not be affected during the upgrades but it will not be possible to request new data during this period.
Planned changes will make it easier for users to re-register, new users to create an account and, it will be easier for collaborators on project teams to gain access and agree to conditions placed upon project data. The data catalogue search engine will also be upgraded, taking into account feedback from users.
Normal services are expected to resume on 30 August 2018.
As of Monday 11 Junethere will be work taking place in Silent Study Room 124
(Floor 1) of The Sir Duncan Rice Library as we re-purpose the space, to make it better fit your needs. There will be some disruption as this work takes place, and for that we apologise in advance. We will do all we can to keep any inconvenience to a minimum, but the summer months are the only time when such work can take place. The exact timing of this work is still to be confirmed but we will put out further information via our social media once we have firm dates.
In the meantime, if you need a silent space to study why not use the silent study rooms in the south west corner of Floors 3, 4 and 5? These rooms were recently equipped with power and USB sockets allowing you to work from your laptop in a silent environment.

We have received notification that Emerald Insight, one of our providers of numerous e-journals will be undergoing essential maintenance tomorrow, Tuesday March 22. This work will impact upon some of the functionality on their site, but you should still be able to gain access in “read only” mode.
This maintenance is due to begin at 08.00 GMT, March 22, and is expected to last for up to 12 hours. The following features will not be fully functional during this time:
Adding Publications as favourites
Any changes to ‘My Account’ and ‘Institutional Account’
Should you access the website during this time, you will receive a notification that the site functionality is temporary unavailable within your browser.
The majority of the titles available through Emerald Insight are within the following disciplines:
Fortunately, many, but not all, of the titles on Emerald Insight are also available through the ProQuest platform, on such databases as ABI/INFORM Complete, Accounting and Tax, and others. So, when linking out to a journal article from Primo tomorrow check to see if it is being provided by Emerald Insight, and if it is also provided by another supplier please select that alternative.
Emerald, and ourselves, apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the maintenance is vital.
Tomorrow library staff will be carrying out vital maintenance to Primo, the Library’s resource discovery tool, as essential updates are installed. This maintenance work may also impact upon the Library Catalogue and DigiTool.
This update will take place between 8 and 9am on Tuesday December 1. It is expected that Primo and the other services may actually be functioning as normal during this time but they should be considered at risk of being unavailable.
We apologise for any inconvenience this short interruption may cause, but this maintenance is essential.
And, as this is the week during which exams start, we would also like to wish all our students good luck.
Here at the University of Aberdeen Library staff have been busy over the summer redesigning Primo, our online gateway to our collection of print and digital resources, and the fruits of this hard work will be available for everyone to see, and use, very soon. Below is sneak preview of the new cleaner homepage for Primo.
We have worked to make it simpler in appearance and easier to use while ensuring that it is still very much able to help all our users find the information they need for study or research, in whatever format it may come.
The Web of Science database will be undergoing some essential maintenance this weekend but it is not expected that the database will be unavailable during that period. However, we have been informed that during the time that the upgrade will be taking place there may be some be some intermittent issues.
The planned time for the upgrade is between Sunday 19 October at 14.00 until the early hours of Monday morning, at 02.00.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
