As students head away for the spring holidays we would like to remind them, and all our visitors, that a second pilot phase of 24-hour opening for The Sir Duncan Rice Library will be running during the upcoming exams, from Sunday 26 April to Thursday 21 May, 2015.

Also, don’t forget that currently we are also trialling visitors being allowed to eat cold food and have hot drinks within the library. This means that you will be able to keep yourself fuelled up at your desks as you revise and prepare for the fast approaching exams. Further information on the food and drink pilot is available here.

During this period you should be aware that:

  • Swipe access only after 10.00pm – please ensure you have your ID card, as access will not be permitted without it.
  • Essential cleaning of the building will be carried out overnight between 2.00am and 6.00am, which may result in some disruption.
  • The PCs require a nightly shutdown lasting about ten minutes, and reboot for essential maintenance. This will happen at 4.00am, and you will be given an option to delay this for 2 hours.
  • Look after yourselves and your belongings – take breaks, but don’t leave your personal belongings unattended.
  • Take care if leaving the Library in the early hours – travel with friends if possible.
  • Please respect the building and your fellow library users by keeping talk to the group study areas to allow others to study.
  • The food and drink pilot which is currently taking place will continue during the exam period. Please note that no hot food is permitted in the Library. Please tidy up after yourself and use the bins provided throughout the building.
  • Report any problems to security staff on duty – in person, or by phone – at the Information Centre on Floor 1 or tel. 01224 273330
  • The last day for 24 hour opening is Thursday 21 – Friday 22 May, with the library closing at 10.00pm on the Friday.
