Calling all RefWorks users on campus. There may be some temporary disruption for some students working with RefWorks and Write-N-Cite on some of the University’s own classroom PCs.
Our wonderful colleagues in IT Services are currently carrying out the annual summer upgrade of software on all classroom PCs and during this process it has come to our attention that there may be some issues surrounding the use of RefWorks, Write-N-Cite and Word 2013 on some of them. Word 2013 has been installed this summer to upgrade from Word 2010 and this newer version of Microsoft Word has been causing problems for a handful of students, when using it alongside Write-N-Cite.
We are currently investigating this issue in conjunction with IT Services and RefWorks and hope to have a solution to this soon.
Thankfully, there have been no reports of people having difficulties when working on their own personal machines, therefore we recommend that if you want to use RefWorks to write your dissertation, and have access to a laptop of your own on which you haven’t yet installed Write-N-Cite, that you do so now. You will then be able to continue working on your dissertation without the ocassional problems which we are experiencing on the University’s PCs
To learn how to install Write-N-Cite read step 4 of this library guide. Further information on how to use Write-N-Cite is available here. Also, be sure to read the installation guide, available from the Write-N-Cite installation page on the RefWorks website, to ensure that you have all other necessary software installed on your laptop.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this may be causing some of you, particularly at a time when many dissertations are being written. We are doing all we can to resolve this and will keep you updated with any developments in relation to this in the near future.
