LIBRARY WORKSHOPS: Places still available on our free library workshops

There are still places available on our free library Find it Fast! workshops which run in February and March. The workshops will help you get the most out of the library’s resources and enable you to carry out effective research required to support assignments, essays or dissertations.

For those unable to attend the sessions in person we provide online access to the workshop materials on our Information Skills Wiki. From here you can access recordings, presentations and worksheets from our older workshops, and we’ll load more recent ones over the coming weeks.

The one hour workshops, held over lunchtime, provide instruction on how to:

  • Use Primo, our online gateway to the library’s resources
  • Access collections of thousands of academic ebooks
  • Find and use scholarly journals and other quality resources through our many online databases
  • Unlock the full potential of Google and other search engines
  • Keep track of your references and create perfect bibliographies for your assignments by using reference management software (RefWorks)

We think these workshops are perfect for undergraduate and taught postgraduate students across all Colleges! Invest an hour of your time over lunch to pick up tips and techniques that will save you time later when carrying out research for assessed work.

Please note:

  • Because we offer repeats of most of the workshops please be sure to only sign up for one of each
  • The ‘Managing References and Creating Bibliographies’ workshops are offered in two parts and you must complete part 1 before attending part 2. Unfortunately, these referencing workshops are not suitable for Law students as the software taught does not support the legal referencing style, OSCOLA
  • Refresher workshops will be on offer for taught postgraduate students in June. But these are extremely popular – don’t leave things too late and end up on a waiting list in June when you can learn now and apply your new-found skills to your research and studies in the coming months.
